Rositza Stanisjewa

Rositza Stanisjewa was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, and has lived and worked in the Netherlands since 1989. She studied at the Fine Arts High School, specialising in jewellery and metalwork, before continuing her education at the Sofia Academy of Fine Arts, where she focused on illustration.

Rositza works with a wide range of techniques, including painting, etching, lithography, illustration, digital art and mixed media. Her diverse background has resulted in a layered and distinctive visual language in which different art forms come together. Since her first major exhibitions in Sofia and Plovdiv in 1989, she has participated in exhibitions and art festivals in countries including France, Sweden, the United States and Germany. A solo exhibition at a museum in Sofia marked a special milestone in her career as a painter.

Travel and international connections play an important role in Rositza Stanisjewa’s artistic practice. New York, Paris and Barcelona are among the cities where she regularly finds inspiration and connects with the worlds of art and theatre. Her broad experience with both traditional and digital techniques gives her the freedom to continually bring together different materials, methods and visual languages.
